Keep baby happy in it's nappy

The key to preventing nappy rash is to keep baby's skin clean and dry for as long as possible. And although babies pass urine frequently throughout the night and day, nappy rash can be easily soothed and prevented by following these simple tips:

Nappy changing - change baby’s nappy regularly so that skin is not in contact with urine or faeces for too long.

Air circulation – either loosen nappy or take off baby’s nappy for a little while each day to let air circulate around the bottom area. Allowing baby to go nappy free will allow natural healing to take place and reduce contact with skin irritants.

Protective Ointment – gently smooth on a thin film of a protective ointment at every nappy change, and especially at bedtime when baby will not be changed for a while. This will create a barrier between baby’s delicate skin and the irritants in urine and faeces.

Pat skin dry – after cleaning baby's bottom areas with warm water and cotton wool. (Baby wipes can occasionally be too harsh and cause further irritation). Gently pat skin dry rather than rubbing with a towel. Always try to keep baby's bottom clean and dry.
